Environmental activism wins big in Lebanon

After years of protests, 'Bisri activists' received good news in April 2020 when the World Bank froze the loan to fund an environmentally destructive dam “due to non-completion of the tasks that are preconditions to the commencement of construction of the Bisri Dam”.  

Lebanese environmental activists rejoice as they preserve one of the country's most biodiverse areas.

Join the Interreg Mediterranean Renewable Energy Community

REVOLVE is proud to have joined the Interreg MED Renewable Energy Community as the Communication partner in September 2020. The Renewable Energy Community promotes the integration of renewable energies across the Mediterranean region with a focus on rural and island areas, using a holistic perspective. The Community advances the use of Ecosystemic Transition Units (ETUs) to embed the energy transition in territorial planning and to enhance local sustainable development. We use a multi-level coordination model to bring together governance, economic competitiveness, and social innovation with the goal of improving climate resilience for vulnerable areas and for greater sustainability for all.

The Middle East moves away from fossil fuels?

Serious talk about hydrogen power development in the MENA region has translated into the creation of the MENA Hydrogen Alliance, which "aims to accelerate the development of value chains for green molecules in the region and bring together private and public sector actors and academia." Also, US-based Air Products and Acwa Power recently signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a $5bn hydrogen-based ammonia plant in Saudi Arabia

SCP/RAC is Seeking a Project Manager

Within the framework of the EU-funded SwitchMed initiative, the Regional Activity Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP/RAC) is seeking a project manager with experience in the southern Mediterranean to design, organize, coordinate and monitor support activities to entrepreneurs in this region.

The SwitchMed initiative aims at achieving a circular economy in the southern Mediterranean by changing the way goods and services are produced and consumed. In order to achieve this, the initiative provides tools and services directly to the private sector, supports an enabling policy environment, and facilitates the exchange of information among partners and key stakeholders. 

The deadline for proposal submission is 28 September.

Call For tenders for communication training sessions

Interreg Med launches its call for tenders for a series of communication training sessions. 

The Interreg MED Programme gathers 13 European countries from the North shore of the Mediterranean. They are working together for sustainable growth in the region. The Programme supports projects developing innovative concepts and practices and promoting a reasonable use of resources.

The deadline for proposal submission is October 6 at 16:00 (GMT+1)

The Talking Paper Project: Communicating water issues  

The Talking Paper Project, founded by Ph.D. student Mohamed Hassan Tawfik, aims to offer roundtable-like episodes with international water researchers in an easily accessible, shareable video format. 

The project's ultimate goal is to "communicate and link the perspectives of academics, government officials, donors, practitioners, and managers regarding sustainable development-related topics, particularly in the water sector and blue-green systems".

To respond to this global challenge, the “smart city” concept seeks to understand how digital technologies can help to optimize the environmental footprint of urban areas, including that of public services.
